Curtis Vance and the Anne Pressly Murder

This morning I watched as the parent’s of the late Anne Pressly gave an interview on the Today Show. It was heartfelt and all the things you would expect, but 2 things bothered me about it:

1) The part where the parents state Pressly was presumed a virgin by stating she was ‘of God’ implying she was that much more worthy of pity or better yet, some kind of cosmic pass than your average run of the mill slut who chooses to give it up and therefore really deserves this kind of stuff to happen to her. Doesn’t the odds game apply to those that believe they are holier than others? How many celebrities haven’t been brutalized by crazed stalkers? Or haven’t these people heard of a crime of opportunity (maybe she left a window open, nice looking girl, sleeping…just couldn’t resist)?

2) What disturbed me even more was the fact that throughout the entire interview did you EVER hear them say they wanted Vance to pay so he would not do it to someone else? I know I didn’t. They just wanted revenge…woops, justice. I also didn’t hear them mention, not ONE TIME the schoolteacher that was raped back in April. Her case serves to demonstrate that Vance was a serial rapist and predator. They have DNA for the schoolteacher’s rape, but what happened with Pressly: did Vance smarten up and wear a condom showing premeditation and a new level of sophistication? They didn’t mention Pressly was found wet so he didn’t bathe her after she was already dead? Wouldn't some of his skin be under her fingernails since she fought so viciously? What happened to the seminal fluid?

To be honest, all this right now really doesn’t matter. She’s gone and they are angry. I do feel they must be in a lot of pain losing a child in that manner. It’s a tragedy regardless of whose child it is and regardless of what kind of lifestyle the child had in life. But, the truth is that just because she was ‘of God’ doesn’t make her immune from some Nutjob fixating on her because she was on TV or of being killed and raped because maybe she left some corner of her home unsecured prior to going to sleep because she wanted to get some fresh air.

Bad things do happen to good people and good things happen to bad people and somehow it all balances out. No one is more deserving of a violent sexual attack because they get their freak on every now and again or even if they do it again or maybe even again and again. It just doesn’t matter. Sometimes really bad shit just happens and that’s all there is to it!

By their logic, and if you really stretch the whole rancorous Old Testament God thing, which honestly I detest doing, but just humor me for a minute. Maybe she was being punished for some secret sin? Why else would something like this happen to someone so pure of heart and body? Maybe she was just a pawn and the parents are really the ones deserving of retribution? Or maybe she wasn’t as pure as they thought?

No, no, no! These 2 women were preyed upon by some crazed man who had a fetish for the good girl type. All he needed was an opportunity and he was good to go. He did not need to over think it. All he sought was that one moment of dropping their guard. This is how predators operate. There is no judgment of who is naughty or nice or who is going to go to heaven or not. This means nothing to someone like that. To them, you are a thing that can serve one narrow purpose...no more and certainly no less.
